Guess who met her great-grandmother a few days ago! Yup, Connor Claire met my glam granny — her swell-grandmother — last weekend at my parents' house in Union Metropolis.
What a trip! It brought back so many memories of my babyhood with my glam granny and made me realize how lucky Connor is to have both sets of her grandparents (hi, Nana and Grandpa El Hub!) AND a groovy-grandparent in her life. I tin can't await for her to make her own memories.
When I was a kid, my glam grandma was the only grandparent in my life. She came to the The states from the Philippines in the early '80s a few years after my parents did and lived not far from united states of america in the aforementioned boondocks.
Up until she retired, she worked doing laundry at the local Holiday Inn. Every morning time on her way to work she drove me to schoolhouse in her red Ford Tempo — which she loved considering it matched her glamorous pilus, which she dyed blood-red — and every day she said, "I honey you!" when I got out of the car.
I retrieve one summertime she took me and my younger blood brother on a day trip to Lake Elizabeth, where people have picnics and parties, in the nearby town of Fremont, but get-go we stopped at a pizza place and grabbed a pepperoni pizza.
We brought it out to the lake and dined al fresco, and while we were eating, granny noticed that some people were tooling around the lake on paddle boats (the kind you power with your feet). She asked me and my brother if we'd ever done it before, and when we said no, she took us over to the dock and rented one for united states.
Nosotros spent the rest of the afternoon paddling back and along across that lake and having a grand one-time time.
Come to call up near it, Grandma was always pretty outdoorsy. She loved going for long walks and also loved riding her huge blue 3-wheeled bike, which was substantially a tricycle for grownups, all over town.
Granny's bike had a large silver basket in the back for carrying groceries and whatnot, and when I was very immature, she let me climb into the handbasket. Then she'd ride around the neighborhood for exercise.
It must've been a hoot to see a glamorous older Filipino lady on an oversized tricycle with her tiny footling grandchild in the dorsum, LOL!
Yeah, my granny was ever glamorous, even when she exercised. She e'er had her nails painted, her hair dyed her favorite color (blood-red) and e'er carried a tube of Revlon lipstick.
It was a green tube — I recall — and the color was Orangish Flip. I always wanted to endeavour it but was too shy to inquire.
Equally far as I know, she'due south always been into makeup and beauty. Dorsum when she was a young adult female in the Philippines but earlier World War 2, she competed in beauty pageants, which is where I'chiliad guessing she learned how to pose, considering she's always been so photogenic (I honestly don't think I've always seen her accept a bad motion picture), and she still is today, even at 88 years young.
She even went to cosmetology schoolhouse here in the U.S. to learn how to do hair and makeup.
In fact, after she learned how to do perms one day she came home and practiced on me and my mom…simply that's another story for another fourth dimension, LOL!
I still have a business organization carte she gave me years agone, and correct beneath her name and number it says "Cosmetologist" in a scripty font.
I have a lot of great memories of growing up with my grandma, and at present information technology's time for Connor Claire to make some of her ain with her grandparents.
This September 11 will exist her starting time Grandparents Twenty-four hour period, and her get-go time giving Grandparents Day cards, so I went to Walgreens this week to (help her) choice out her cards.
And for my grandma I looked for a carte du jour with a sweet message that also had her favorite color in information technology — red. This i with flowers was perfect.
Since Connor can't option out her ain cards nonetheless (she is a baby, afterward all!), I picked out these beautiful ones with animals for her.
They seem like something she'd like.
The Walgreens I become to has a huge selection of cards, so there was a lot to choose from, and shh! — while I was at that place, I may or may not accept too picked up some beauty goodies for myself. 🙂
Hey, my grandma is a beauty daughter! I'yard pretty sure she would accept approved. 🙂
Happy early Grandparents Solar day to all of the wonderful grandparents (and future grandparents) out there. Thank you for being you.
Your friendly neighborhood beauty addict,
Karen
